When Chinese state TV blames Chen Ruichang's faith for a fiery public suicide, he is held in a Clockwork Orange-style brainwashing facility and made to believe the government's story. He is forced to believe it. Then Chen, who used to work for the state TV, thinks that it was all part of a government plan. A CNN reporter who tried to get footage of the event out of China has been told not to do that. But her eyewitness account helps to unravel a complicated conspiracy, as Chinese authorities start to pressure the filmmaker's family and business associates, which helps to clear things up.
